Magnum P.I. Ferrari 308 A Great Way To Start Off Your Ferrari Collection.
Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Ferrari 308 Quattrovalvole    Ferrari 308 Quattrovalvole

The Ferrari 308 is a classic Ferrari with timeless beauty and universal appeal.  This car is undeniably Ferrari with its exotic body work, bold lines, and skinny-round knobbed shifter.  The mid-engined Ferrari 308 was manufactured by Ferrari from the mid 1970s- the mid 1980s. They made up the lower end of the company’s range. Now-a-days you can pick up one of these cars for somewhere between $25-40K…thus making this a great car to build a collection around.

This car was made famous on the TV show Magnum P.I. that ran from 1980-1988 on CBS. For car enthusiasts who are too young to remember the TV show Magnum P.I., it’s worth checking out a couple of old episodes on your cable or satellite service…as the 308 is showcased in a big way on almost every episode.

The premise of the show is as follows:

Magnum P.I. (P.I. stands for Private Investigator)(played by Tom Selleck) lives and resides in the ‘guest house’ of a posh, 200-acre (0.81 km2) beachfront estate, known as Robin’s Nest , in Hawaii. Robin’s Nest is guarded by two highly-trained Doberman Pinschers, Zeus and Apollo, and all other aspects of the estate are managed by Englishman Jonathan Quayle Higgins III, an ex-British Army Sergeant Major with whom, often as a humorous aside during various episodes of the series, Magnum must barter for use of estate amenities such as the tennis courts, wine cellar, expensive cameras, etc.

Magnum seemingly lives a dream lifestyle: he comes and goes as he pleases, works only when he wants to, has the almost unlimited use of a Red Ferrari 308 GTS  as well as many other of Robin Masters’ luxuries. He keeps a mini-fridge with a seemingly endless supply of fictional Coops beer, is seemingly surrounded by countless beautiful women (who are often his clients or victims in the cases he solves) and enjoys adventures with his buddies Rick and T.C., both former U.S. Marines he served with in the Vietnam War.

Check out a few episodes for some inspiration to start your Ferrari collection.

Laborghini Gallardo

Lamborghini has released its pre-tax profits for 2008, and the supercar manufacturer netted a total of 60 million euros ($79.6 million) last year for a 27% increase over 2007. Overall sales were up a scant 2.5%, eclipsing the previous year’s sales record (2,406 vehicles) with 2,430 cars sold worldwide. The increase in sales is attributed to growth in China and the Middle East, while sales in the U.S. fell by over 20% to just 741 vehicles (down from 930 in 2007). Read More.
